Saffron Treasures aims to empower marginalized communities. We particularly focus on supporting Afghan refugees in Turkey and women in Afghanistan. Following a fair trade model, we pursue sustainable, equitable partnerships with jewelry makers, saffron growers, lapis lazuli artisans, and more. Not just a rug—an act of solidarity and resistance. 🫶🏻
Inspired by the World Trade Center, this rug was woven by two women in Afghanistan. They used to make these rugs for American soldiers to show solidarity over the tragedy of 9/11 and honor those who died. 🇦🇫🇺🇸 As textile artists, these women also admire the beauty of these buildings and wish that they were still standing today. ❤️
Unfortunately, under the Taliban regime, it has become dangerous for anyone in Afghanistan to have these rugs. We brought this to the US to protect our Afghan partners and honor both those who lost their lives and the women who created this powerful protest rug.
